ABOUT

MARCO CARTA & DENISE GUEYE began working together in summer 2021, when they were involved in the production of the Romancero Gitano, a composition for choir and classical guitar by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, with texts by Garcia Lorca. To complete the concert programme, they were asked to perform some original music works by Lorca, who had transcribed popular songs from the traditional folklore of his homeland. Melding together jazz, polyphonic ancient music and elements from classical repertoire and flamenco, Carta and Gueye arranged the works for classical guitar and voice, recording them on a CD in 2022.

Carta is an award-winning classical guitarist, who graduated from the Conservatory of Sassari. He has performed in Italy, UK, Czech Republic and
Austria, and recorded for Vatican Radio. His repertoire, as a soloist and in ensembles, ranges from the renaissance to the contemporary, with several world premieres to his credit. He co-founded the Goya Project, and has studied at the Chigiana and at the Segovia Academies, as well as with many renowned Masters.

Gueye is a Jazz singer from Sardinia. Her musical journey includes a wide range of genres. The lead singer in the Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia, she also sings as a contralto in the Polyphonic Choir Santa Cecilia, in Sassari. Also, she studied baroque flute, and has been awarded prizes and scholarships in numerous festivals and competitions. Denise has recorded with various groups and musicians, most recently with the Jazz Requiem Mass by Bruno Tommaso.
